Summary
Born under the star Heart with the true name Ayuru Gi, Nakago is the main antagonist of Fushigi Yuugi and the leader of the Seiryuu warriors. A charismatic yet merciless figure, he discards those who are no longer useful and expertly manipulates others to serve his will. As the highest-ranking general of Kuto, he commands two-thirds of the army and is considered the most powerful of all Celestial Warriors. His abilities allow him to manipulate chi, granting him psychokinetic powers, the capacity to fire energy blasts, and the ability to create force fields. In combat, he also wields a whip and a sword. Nakago is the last survivor of the Hin Tribe, a people destroyed by the Emperor of Kuto. His tragic past began when he witnessed Kutō soldiers raping his mother; in a rage that triggered his powers, he killed the soldiers and his own mother. Recognized as a Celestial Warrior by the remaining soldiers, he was taken to the Emperor, where his natural beauty led to sexual abuse. Despite appearing to be a loyal soldier, Nakago had been planning to betray the Emperor his entire life, a deception he maintained after mastering complete control over his abilities. Creator Yu Watase has cited Nakago as her favorite character in various chapter notes and in the OVA special "The Tale of the Forbidden Women's Hot Spring."
