Summary
On August 3, 1975, Eikichi Onizuka was born into a life that initially saw him as a twenty-two-year-old hormonal virgin and blonde-haired biker. He graduated from a low-tier university through cheating, which barred him from securing respectable employment and left him spending his days peering up girls' skirts at local malls. Despite this lack of direction, he possessed extraordinary athletic prowess, capable of bench pressing 150 kg, holding a second dan black belt in karate, and claiming to perform five hundred push-ups, one thousand pull-ups, and two thousand squats daily. Through the events of the Great Teacher Onizuka manga, Onizuka resolves to become a teacher, a path chosen despite rumors implying his IQ is merely around fifty. His journey begins at Musashino Public High School, where he encounters Nanako Mizuki. After successfully managing the rowdy gangs in his assigned class, he solidifies his commitment to education. Learning of Mizuki’s troubles, he decides to forgo sexual encounters with his students, choosing instead to help them resolve their personal issues. His path to a teaching position nearly derailed when he forgot to take the public civil service exam, rendering him ineligible for public high schools. However, he secured a position at the prestigious Holy Forest Academy, overcoming the objections of Vice-Principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi, whom he continued to annoy throughout his tenure. A condition of his employment was living in the school’s top-floor storage room with roof access. It was here that Onizuka officially launched his teaching career by preventing Yoshikawa Noboru from committing suicide. Assigned to Class 3-4, a group notorious for driving previous teachers insane, Onizuka not only survived their brutal bullying but also befriended his students. The narrative of the series revolves around his unique methods for turning his students around and his own personal growth. Later, during the National Exams, hints suggest Onizuka might be a genius. Although his exam results were swapped between a perfect score and one just short of it, Yoshito Kikuchi verified the answers, finding them astonishing. Onizuka claimed he achieved perfection in just one hour, despite taking the five-hour exam while bleeding and having four bullets in his stomach. Onizuka displays incredible physical resilience, often surviving falls that would kill most people. He boasts a healing factor, having recovered from a broken arm in under a day and endured multiple gunshot wounds in quick succession. He frequently displays his strength in flamboyant ways, such as defeating over one hundred increasingly strong arm-wrestling opponents in a row, including Heihachi from the Tekken series and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th. His combat skills are formidable; he can fend off multiple well-armed opponents with minimal damage. Despite his skills, Onizuka is often punished by his students and others when he acts inappropriately, suggesting he allows them to keep him in check. For instance, during an Okinawa trip, he forced students to dig for buried treasure, leading Kanzaki Urumi to kick him into a hole and make him wear S&M garb while crawling on all fours with her riding on his back. Similarly, Principal Uchiyamada once hit him with a wooden bench after discovering Onizuka had been acting like a lech with his daughter at a karaoke bar. Onizuka’s personal mode of transportation is a 750cc Kawasaki Z2 motorcycle type S, a vehicle that plays a significant role in the prequel series to GTO.
