Taiwan

Summary

Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is a strong-willed, fashionable teenage girl who wears a qipao. Standing at 150cm with long brown hair and a distinctive curly ahoge, her age remains unknown. Although she has not appeared in the anime adaptation, she made her speaking debut in the eighth Hetalia character CD, which focused on China. Her birthday is October 25th, and the national flower associated with her is the Plum Blossom. Fan interpretations of her relationship with China vary. A sketch suggests she might dislike China and favor Japan, where she calls China a "bastard" and tells him to stay away from Japan. However, in the character CD, she addresses China as "sensei" and speaks to him in a friendly manner, leaving their true dynamic a mystery. Fans often speculate that she was raised by China and view China, Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong as her siblings. Her personality is cheerful but marked by a smart mouth, a short temper, and a nervous disposition that prevents her from stopping her worries. While her official human name has not been finalized, creator Hidekaz Himaruya has considered names like Lin Yi Ling and Xiao Mei. Consequently, fans commonly refer to her as Mei, meaning plum blossom, or as Meimei, Tai-chan, Wanwan, and Wan-chan, all derived from her country's name.
