Summary
Kanako is a fifth-grade student in Shūichi’s class at the start of Hōrō Musuko. While her nickname is Sasa-chan, her younger brother and Chizuru call her Kanabun. Although she appears in the manga’s second chapter, her name is not revealed until volume two. She is a short, energetic girl who considers herself friends with everyone and becomes distressed when her friends quarrel. During such conflicts, Kanako acts as a mediator to ensure no one is left alone. She has been friends with Yoshino since pre-school and grew close to Chizuru after entering junior high. Kanako appears innocent and childish, worrying mostly about her friends’ disputes. She can be troublesome for her mother, who selects her clothes and helps her get ready for school. Kanako has mentioned that thinking too hard makes her brain feel itchy.
