Summary
Known as Ponygon in the English dub, Umagon is a Mamono that variously resembles a small horse, donkey, or sheep, according to Kiyomaro’s companions. The creature is limited to speaking only the phrase "Meru meru mee." His true name is revealed to be Schneider during flashbacks where his mother addresses him by that name. Although he frequently follows Gash Bell throughout the series, he does not receive an official introduction until episode 23. He is partnered with the human Kafka Sunbeam. In the manga narrative, Umagon finds Gash at the conclusion of his journey in England, whereas the anime adaptation introduces him earlier in Japan. This change allows the story to showcase the character while he follows Gash and Kiyomaro to England, eventually aligning with the manga’s continuity.
