Summary
Bonnon serves as the antagonist in the SuperS special episode titled Ami-chan no Hatsukoi. The story begins with Ami studying intensely for her high school entrance exams, locked in a fierce competition with a mysterious rival named Mercurius who consistently matches her perfect scores. Ami’s excessive dedication leads to severe sleep deprivation, and at her prep school, she accidentally sleeps through an entire class. Upon waking to find it dark outside, she catches a fleeting glimpse of a glowing red face through the window before it vanishes into a lilac mist. Disoriented, Ami leaves the classroom while the mist coalesces into Bonnon, a spirit who mistakenly believes Ami is in love with a man because her thoughts are consumed by her rival. Bonnon intends to feed on Ami’s passion by enveloping her in her skirts, which causes Ami to fall ill during her journey home. Back at her apartment, Ami lies in bed troubled by the belief that Mercurius is harming her, a fixation that Bonnon exploits to launch a Love Letter Attack. This assault causes bubbles filled with Ami’s memorized study material to form over her head and burst, erasing her knowledge. Usagi, Mamoru, and ChibiUsa soon arrive at Ami’s apartment to find her still losing her memories. Usagi attempts to rescue her friend, but the floor disappears, forcing Usagi to cling desperately to the door frame. ChibiUsa demands to know the villain’s identity, but a delirious Ami claims to be Mercurius trying to defeat her, refusing to let Bonnon reveal the truth. In response, Ami transforms into Sailor Mercury and defeats the evil spirit with her Mercury Aqua Mirage.
