Summary
Banchina, whose name translates from Italian to mean Dock, was the mother of Usopp and the wife of Yasopp. She actively encouraged her husband to pursue his aspirations and join the Red-Haired Pirates as a crew member. However, Usopp’s childhood was defined by raising a mother who became bedridden due to a severe illness. To maintain her spirits and foster a hope for recovery, he fabricated a daily story claiming his father had returned to take them away. Banchina was aware that Yasopp would never come back, but before passing away, she expressed her happiness that he had chosen to sail the seas. Usopp persisted in telling this same lie even after her death, despite no longer having a purpose for it. During the Loguetown filler arc, Yasopp confessed his feelings of inadequacy, believing he was useless and unable to provide for his family. When one of Shanks’ men questioned whether it was not for the better that he left, the rest of the crew cheered and hooted, treating his departure as a positive outcome. Her first appearance occurred in Chapter 41 and Episode 17.
