Yukina
Summary
Yukina is the gentle, considerate, and somewhat innocent twin sister of Hiei, a name that translates to 'Ice Sprout'. Born as an Ice apparition, known as Kourime or 'Ice Woman', she shares the traits of her clan, which include powers over snow and ice, as well as light healing capabilities. A unique characteristic of her kind is that their tears transform into precious gems highly sought after in the human world. However, Yukina was also born with a twin brother, Hiei, who was considered a forbidden child. Despite her mother's desperate pleas, he was condemned to death and thrown off a cliff. At the start of the series, Yukina is unaware of Hiei’s existence or that she has a brother. Hiei, for reasons largely unknown to Yukina, periodically appears to protect her when others are absent or unable to help. In the manga, Yukina eventually discovers that Hiei is indeed her sibling, whereas in the English Dub, Hiei often tells her that her brother is likely dead. Yukina serves as the love interest for Kazuma Kuwabara, though she remains oblivious to his feelings. Kuwabara first encountered Yukina through a video tape, declaring his love and rushing to rescue her, though he left before learning she was Hiei’s sister. Kuwabara consistently attempts to shield Yukina at any personal cost, with his strength surging beyond normal limits during his battle with Risho after seeing her for the first time. After witnessing Tarukane’s mistreatment of Yukina, Kuwabara urged her not to hate humans, to which she responded that she did not dislike them and actually liked Kuwabara.
