Shikaku Nara, whose surname translates to "deer" while his given name can mean "assassin," is the father of Shikamaru and the husband of Yoshino Nara. He is a member of the Nara clan who raises deer, utilizing their antlers to create medicine that neutralizes the destructive effects of the Akimichi clan’s three colored pills. Shikaku was part of the legendary Ino-Shika-Cho trio alongside Choza Akimichi and Inoichi Yamanaka, serving as the Shika of the group, just as his son does. Although he is rarely seen in the manga or anime, his appearance closely mirrors his son’s, distinguished only by his matured features and facial scars. Known for his lazy demeanor and occasional alcoholism, Shikaku often uses phrases similar to Shikamaru’s catchphrases, such as "What a drag." He demonstrated this prowess during Orochimaru’s invasion of Konoha, where he successfully employed the Shadow Neck Bind Technique against three opponents simultaneously. While he shares his son’s tendency to appear lethargic, Shikaku exhibits a far stronger resolve, maintaining great determination and understanding even in the most dangerous or depressing situations. He has repeatedly helped Shikamaru regain his sense of self-worth, proving himself to be a deeply caring father who is always ready to act when necessary.
