Mitsuru

Mitsuru

Summary

Wally’s initial companions included a Ralts named Ruru, which was loaned to him by Ruby, and a Kecleon he caught on his own. His designated starter was a Treecko, which he rescued after Professor Birch lost it during a flood. Wally had previously asked Norman to teach him about Pokémon and assist in catching one, but Norman refused due to Wally’s frail health. Ruby, who appeared to take a liking to Wally possibly because Norman disliked him, decided to help the boy instead. Ruby loaned him his Ralts, allowing Wally to capture a Kecleon. However, before Ruru could be returned to Ruby, an earthquake caused Ruby to fall into the sea. Wally next appeared rescuing the old man who searches for Mirage Island in Pacifidlog Town from a flood caused by Kyogre. By this time, he had recovered significantly from his illness and had been traveling around Hoenn for some time. Norman, who happened to be passing by, finally agreed to take Wally on as a student and instructed him to meet at the Sky Pillar. There, Norman revealed that he had been training Ruby since he was young to help awaken Rayquaza, a feat that required someone the size of a ten-year-old boy. Despite his improved health, Wally wears a suit with a built-in respirator, suggesting his condition may be a form of asthma. He acquired his Cacnea while traveling through the desert, his Roselia on Route 117, and received his Flygon from Norman, though most of these events occurred off-panel. Wally was once mistakenly believed to be a representation of the protagonist of Pokémon Emerald due to his green-themed team and wardrobe. However, he is not a Pokédex Holder and debuted long before any announcements for Pokémon Emerald, indicating he was never intended for that role, leading to the creation of a new character for that purpose.
