Summary

Known for his flamboyant and wicked demeanor, Howl is a mysterious and reclusive wizard whose notorious moving castle has recently been spotted near Market Chipping. Rumors suggest he is on a hunt for beautiful young women whose hearts he intends to steal. He hails from Wales, a region largely unknown to most in the story, and his family back home remains oblivious to his activities in Sophie's world or even the world's existence. In reality, however, Howl is an endearing, charming, and considerate man, though he can be somewhat self-appreciative and stubborn. He is intelligent and fond of using comical methods to "slither out" of uncomfortable situations. Physically, he is tall and suave, with a penchant for dyeing his hair and wearing impressive suits. Despite this stylish appearance, Calcifer describes him as being very vain for a plain man with mud-colored hair.
