Crocodile serves as the leader of Baroque Works, a clandestine organization composed of assassins and spies, while also holding the title of Shichibukai. Through his control of Baroque Works, he orchestrates a rebellion in the kingdom of Alabasta to secure access to the Poneglyph hidden beneath the palace. He operates under the belief that the Poneglyph will reveal the location of the ancient weapon Pluton, a power he seeks to harness in order to establish his own military dominance. His schemes are ultimately thwarted when he is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy, leading the World Government to strip him of his Shichibukai status and imprison him. Crocodile consumed the Suna Suna no Mi, a Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to manipulate sand and transform his body into sand to evade damage. According to series creator Eiichiro Oda, Crocodile’s former bounty of 81,000,000 would have more than doubled in value had he not accepted Shichibukai status.
