Summary
Stokes served as a rear admiral and vice commander of the 11th Fleet within the Alliance. He took part in the coup d'état orchestrated by the National Salvation Military Council against the Alliance government, acting alongside his superior, Legrange. Following Yang Wen-li’s refusal to support the rebellion, the 11th Fleet moved to confront the loyalist forces, leading to a decisive clash at the Battle of Doria. Yang managed to catch the 11th Fleet off guard and split their formation in two, dispatching Dusty Attemborough’s squadron to engage the forward units led by Stokes. Stokes’ forces continued their advance for a significant period, likely due to the sudden loss of communication links. Once he realized the dire situation, Stokes attempted to turn and assist Legrange, but Attemborough’s forces attacked with such ferocity that he was compelled to engage the smaller contingent first. Unbeknownst to Stokes, this maneuver played directly into Yang’s strategy. Attemborough mostly remained just out of reach, launching attacks only when Stokes began to turn back toward the main battle, effectively keeping him separated from Legrange, who was ultimately defeated. As the rest of Yang’s forces eventually joined Attemborough’s squadron, they critically outgunned and outnumbered Stokes’ troops. Despite repeated offers of surrender from Yang, Stokes refused to yield and was destroyed along with the remainder of the 11th Fleet.
