Sendou, Yukari

Summary

Yukari Sendou is the youngest and most intelligent student at Yokai Academy, entering the series at age eleven before turning twelve. Born on March 3, she is a Pisces who stands 137 cm tall and weighs 37 kg. As a witch, she typically wears a classic witch outfit comprising a hat and cape, an attire that some students consider a breach of school regulations. Her speech is characterized by the frequent use of "desu" at the end of sentences, which serves to elevate the politeness of her tone. Despite her academic superiority, she faces discrimination from peers who view witches as "Beings of the Borderline"—entities that exist between humans and the supernatural and cannot be distinguished by appearance alone. Prior to meeting Tsukune and Moka, Yukari was a lonely prankster who ranked first in her examinations. She initially harbored animosity toward Tsukune, falsely claiming romantic feelings for Moka and using her magic to drive the pair apart. However, after both Tsukune and Moka rescued her from bullying classmates, she developed feelings for Tsukune as well. Her obsession with both led her to attempt creating a polyamorous relationship between the three. Although she possesses a genius-level IQ, Yukari exhibits a childish nature and indecisiveness regarding whether she loves Tsukune or Moka more. This potential bisexuality is highlighted in an omake where she claims interest in both, though she ultimately chooses Moka. Yukari often clashes with Kurumu, teasing her about her large breasts, yet they occasionally team up, such as during the Witch's Knoll arc, revealing their relationship to be one of friendly rivalry. Notably, she is the only girl in the group to kiss Tsukune in the anime adaptation. As a witch, Yukari casts spells using a heart-shaped magic wand, with her motifs often revolving around tarot cards and washtubs. She can manipulate objects into weapons, notably using brooms to attack Tsukune in her introductory chapter. A recurring gag involves her dropping a washtub on annoying characters, particularly Kurumu, Mizore, and occasionally Gin. Her magical prowess is significant, with great potential when motivated. During the Witch's Knoll arc, she single-handedly defeated an army of monster plants. She has also invented bizarre items, such as the Gro-Gro Drops for Kokoa, which frequently lead to humorous or absurd situations. Her parents, both highly skilled in magic, appear during the school festival in the anime adaptation, where they repair the damage to the academy.
