d'Orléans, Duc
Summary
D'Orléans, Duc is the cousin of Louis XVI and stands second in line to the throne of France. He secretly plotted to usurp the monarchy, initially orchestrating an attempt to kidnap Marie Antoinette prior to her marriage to Prince Louis XVI. This scheme failed due to Lady Oscar's intervention, prompting the Duke to escalate his efforts by trying to assassinate the Prince. He attempted to make the murder appear accidental by swapping the Prince's hunting rifle with a tampered weapon designed to explode upon use. Later in the narrative, the Duke de Orleans, driven by his liberal political views, allows anti-monarchist figures such as the Black Knight, a masked French Robin Hood, and his followers to secretly gather within his Palais Royale.
