Summary
Maruss pairs with Rembrant, a duo that targets Tia and Megumi’s team early in the Mamodo conflict. Wielding a metal element, Maruss was once Tia’s closest companion in the Mamodo World, where he acted as a protective figure against her usual bullying tendencies toward Zatch. However, his mindset shifts drastically upon entering the human world, leading him to believe that the quest for the throne necessitates turning against former friends. He is joined by Rembrant, a delusional and power-hungry partner who falsely assumes he can rule the world through his Mamodo’s strength. The two clash with Tia in the human world when Maruss betrays her, casting her into the sea. After Tia survives and is rescued by Megumi, the pair begins hunting them repeatedly, targeting Megumi because of her status as a renowned idol. During an attack on Tia amidst one of Megumi’s concerts, Zatch intervenes to protect her, confronting Maruss directly. The situation escalates until both bookkeepers engage in battle. Ultimately, Zatch, previously dismissed as a weakling by both Tia and Maruss, defeats the arrogant Mamodo, leaving his shirt in tatters. This victory forces Tia to reconsider her cynical views on friendship during the heat of combat.
