Azazel
Summary
Azazel is a Fallen Angel who previously served as the Governor General of his kind. He holds positions at Kuoh Academy as a teacher and serves as an advisor to the Occult Research Club. First appearing in Volume 4, his personality is a complex blend of laid-back and serious, wise and insane. A research fanatic particularly obsessed with Sacred Gears, he is generally pacifistic, preferring to negotiate his way out of conflicts rather than resorting to violence. He cares deeply for fellow Fallen Angels like Shemhazai and Baraqiel, and his charisma allows him to endear himself to his followers. His personal life is marked by complicated feelings regarding his married friends and acquaintances. Often suggested to be a pervert due to his fondness for breasts and claims of maintaining harems over the millennia, his original motivation for becoming a Fallen Angel was lust. Once an Angel in Heaven, he wrote a report on his Artificial Sacred Gear, the Blazer Shining Aura Darkness Blade, which was published by Michael and caused him significant embarrassment. After having sex with a human woman, he was punished by God and cast out of Heaven. He subsequently founded the Grigori and became its leader. During the Great War between the Three Factions, he ordered the Fallen Angels to retreat after suffering heavy losses. Following this, he focused on creating Artificial Sacred Gears and formed a contract with the Dragon King Fafnir. In Volume 4, he introduces himself to Issei and later proposes a peace treaty during a meeting of the three faction leaders.
