Inuyasha

Summary

Inuyasha is the protagonist of the series, a half-demon or han'yo created from the union of a youkai-dog and a human. Born in Western Japan, specifically an area equivalent to Toyama, he stands at 172 cm tall. His family includes his mother Izayoi, his father InuTaisho, and his full-youkai half-brother Sesshoumaru. Inuyasha fights using his sharp claws and the Tessaiga, a supernatural sword forged from one of his late father’s fangs. Also known as the Tetsusaiga in the Viz translation, the blade is capable of destroying one hundred demons with a single swing and possesses additional powers that are gradually revealed throughout the narrative. The sword is a central point of conflict between Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru, as the full-blooded demon brother cannot wield it despite his superior strength. Inuyasha possesses significant youkai abilities, most notably massive regeneration that allows him to recover from injuries lethal to average humans, a trait demonstrated when Kagome brings medicine from her era. However, on the night of the new moon each month, he reverts to a normal human form with black hair and brown eyes, losing all his supernatural powers. Before meeting his current companions, he would hide during these vulnerable times. His combat repertoire includes various techniques such as the Sankountessou and Hijinkessou with his claws, and sword moves like Kaze no Kizu, Bakuryuuha, Kongousoha, and Meido Zangetsuha with the Tessaiga. He also learns to utilize the sword’s red form to destroy barriers and masters the backlash wave technique, which reflects an opponent’s demonic energy back at them. Emotionally, Inuyasha is entangled in a complex love triangle; he still loves Kikyo but develops romantic feelings for Kagome, complicating his relationships with both women.
