Summary
As the chieftain of a local Boar clan, Nago successfully repelled human expansion from Iron Town, preventing settlers from excavating the mountainside for iron ore. This resistance ended when Lady Eboshi and her riflemen intervened, halting the Boars' campaign. During the ensuing conflict, Eboshi shot Nago, embedding a piece of iron in his body. The metal, combined with his rage and fear of death, corrupted him, transforming him into a Demon God. He rampaged through the countryside before reaching Ashitaka’s village. Ashitaka attempted to intervene during a fierce battle to spare Nago’s tribe, but the encounter ended with Ashitaka killing Nago by shooting arrows into his eye and skull. In this confrontation, Nago cursed Ashitaka with the mark that would lead to his exile. Nago died harboring hatred and regret, leaving behind a final prophecy that humans would suffer the same fate as his clan. His death and transformation under the command of Lord Okkoto galvanized the surviving boars, who were determined to destroy Iron Town, setting the events of Princess Mononoke in motion.
