Summary
Scorpio Kardia is the twenty-two-year-old Gold Saint representing the zodiac sign of Scorpio in the Lost Canvas saga. Initially presented as a close acquaintance of the Aquarius Gold Saint, he maintains the Specter Frog Zelos as a prisoner within his temple. Kardia is characterized as a merciless sadist, embodying pride, arrogance, and boastfulness alongside an explosive temperament. He accompanies Aquarius Dégel on a mission to Siberia to recruit the Blue Warriors for the war against Hades. Upon arriving in Bluegraad, the pair faces an attack from the Blue Warriors. After evading the assault, the Scorpion Gold Saint employs his signature technique, Scarlet Needle. This move launches crimson needles toward fourteen body parts, corresponding to the stars of the Scorpius constellation. The attack induces severe bleeding and excruciating pain, stripping victims of their five senses, which ultimately leads to madness or death. Kardia concludes the combination with Antares Needle, a finishing blow. He also utilizes a newer technique called Katakaio Needle, derived from the Ancient Greek word for "utterly burned." This ability causes an opponent's blood to boil while connected to Kardia’s heart life force. After landing fourteen hits, he finishes with Katakaio Antares, the fifteenth star of the constellation, delivering the fatal strike. During his battle against Rhadamanthys, it is revealed that Kardia fights primarily for his own amusement. His motivation is further driven by a degenerative heart disease that shortens his lifespan. Dégel has been treating this condition by using his freezing abilities to stabilize Kardia’s heart temperature. Embracing his short life, Kardia chooses to live intensely, doing only what he pleases and seeking death at the hands of a strong adversary. His death wish is fulfilled when he defeats Wyvern Rhadamanthys. Although presumed dead, Kardia reappears to help Unity escape the crumbling Atlantis, ensuring the prince reaches the surface alive. Upon waking, Unity finds a red nail in his hand, implying that the Gold Saint died shortly after, leaving the nail as a memento to keep the prince warm.
