Summary
Gecko Moria serves as the captain of the Thriller Bark, recognized as the largest pirate vessel in the world, and once held a bounty of 320,000,000 Beli. He possesses the abilities of the Kage Kage no Mi, which allow him to manifest shadows, including his own, into solid forms, though the complete scope of his powers remains largely unexplored. Moria is responsible for stealing the shadows of Brook and numerous other individuals, a theft that traps the victims in a two-day coma and exposes them to vaporization if they encounter sunlight. These shadows function as a second soul, mirroring their owner’s actions and habits. By implanting these extracted shadows into corpses, Moria creates zombies. When combined with the biologically enhanced bodies engineered by Hogback, he produces powerful and obedient undead warriors. However, if the original shadow owner perishes, the corresponding zombie also dies. To prevent this, Moria keeps the de-shadowed individuals aboard his ship, far from the Thriller Bark. Physically, Moria is an enormous man with a devilish appearance characterized by horns and a shadowy silhouette, matching the height of fellow Shichibukai member Bartholomew Kuma. He often employs smaller, yet still imposing, shadow clones to handle tasks. He wields a pair of massive scissors to sever shadows from his victims. Moria maintains a remarkably calm demeanor, remaining unfazed even as his ship and crew are destroyed. Distinctive X-shaped marks, possibly stitches, appear above his nose and below his chin. His philosophy revolves around relying on others to achieve his objectives, a trait encapsulated in his favorite phrase, "You do it!" This slothful tendency extends to his combat style, where he prefers to remain passive while his shadow, Doppelman, engages in battle using the Kage Kage no Mi’s powers. Moria can switch places with Doppelman at will. His laughter is a peculiar "kishishishi." His name is a double pun referencing his gecko theme and the Japanese word for moonlight, Gekkou, aligning with his nightmare motif. Like Luffy and other figures such as Shichibukai members Blackbeard and Crocodile, Gecko Moria harbors ambitions to become the new Pirate King.
