Hiluluk’s primary ambition was to heal the islanders’ frozen hearts, a condition caused by Wapol’s selfishness. Following Wapol’s decree that outlawed any physician not under his command, he and Doctor Kureha remained the only independent doctors. Yet, unlike Kureha, Hiluluk’s attempts to help often resulted in accidental harm to his patients. During a blizzard while traveling home, Hiluluk encountered Chopper. After Chopper initially tried to repel him, Hiluluk proved his peaceful intentions by showing he carried no weapons. This act of trust allowed them to develop a father-son-like bond. Together, they traversed the island, ostensibly to cure patients but frequently causing chaos that forced them to flee from enraged patients and their associates.
