Morgan

Summary

Captain Morgan, known as "Axe-Hand Morgan" due to his prosthetic right arm which is literally a large steel axe, holds the distinction of being the first Marine officer of significant rank to appear in the series. He is an imposing figure, characterized by his towering stature, white-blond hair, and a steel jaw. His right hand has been replaced by the massive axe, with the handle seemingly extending through his forearm. True to the aesthetic of high-ranking Marines, he wears a large, billowing coat draped like a cape and is frequently seen smoking a cigar. Three years prior to the main storyline, Morgan appeared similar to his current self but lacked both the axe hand and the metal jaw, and he possessed a slimmer physique. Before his rise to power, he was perceived as a courageous man unafraid of death. However, his promotion led to corruption by authority, transforming him into the tyrant he is today. Morgan governs the small island of Shell Town, home to his Naval base, through a regime of fear. He abuses his rank to extort taxes and maintains control by executing subordinates who fail to obey his orders. His son, Helmeppo, mirrors this behavior, exploiting his father's status to bully the island's residents. Despite this, Morgan displays no paternal affection, dismissing Helmeppo as a worthless son who is not even worth striking. His obsession with rank and authority is most evident during his confrontation with Luffy. Even though he is unable to land a single hit on the rubber-man and suffers numerous injuries himself, Morgan refuses to accept defeat.
