Summary
Hina is the mother of Hiei and Yukina and a resident of the Glacial Village, home to the Ice Apparitions. At some point, she left her community to conceive children with a human male, resulting in the birth of twins. While Yukina inherited her mother’s nature as an Ice Apparition, Hiei was born male and possessed the blood of a fire demon. The village elders viewed Hiei as a threat to their society and ordered his execution. Hina’s closest friend, Rui, was tasked with carrying out this sentence by casting Hiei from the Glacial Village into the depths of the Demon World. The circumstances of Hina’s death differ between adaptations. In the anime, she committed suicide shortly after Hiei was banished. Conversely, the manga states that she died shortly after giving birth to her children. Regardless of the cause, Rui was forced to be the one to throw Hiei into the Demon World. Although little about Hina is revealed, it is apparent that she differed from other Ice Apparitions by defying their laws to find a partner. Her deep affection for Hiei was evident even after his banishment, as she pleaded with the elders to spare his life despite his dangerous power and gender.
