Gally

Summary

In the Romance Dawn v.1 manga, Galley is a notorious Morgaina pirate renowned for his crescent mustache and status as one of the "Big Three." Despite this reputation, he is depicted as quite weak compared to Monkey D. Luffy. After Luffy spots Galley’s vessel and decides to seize it to avoid sailing in his small dinghy, he easily defeats Galley’s crew and ties them up. The ship subsequently docks at Loguetown, where Galley and his men escape to seek revenge. However, they flee in terror upon discovering Luffy is a Rubberman. Meanwhile, the townspeople mistakenly capture Luffy, believing him to be Galley. Galley exploits this confusion by taking Luffy hostage and stealing the town’s treasure. He further provokes Luffy by destroying his hat, resulting in Luffy being thrown into the ocean. Luffy is rescued by Silk and retaliates by using Gomu Gomu no Axe to destroy Galley’s ship, leaving Galley vowing revenge. Years later, Galley appears as a crew member on Luffy’s ship, announcing the sighting of land. It appears his encounter with Luffy transformed him from a Morgaina pirate into a Peace Maine, fulfilling Luffy’s desire for a crew composed entirely of Peace Maines. In the anime adaptation of the Loguetown arc, Galley is portrayed as an elderly pirate known as Galley of the Crescent Moon, carrying a bounty of 3,450,000. His design and Jolly Roger clearly draw inspiration from the Romance Dawn version. He and his crew are shown raiding buildings in Loguetown before being apprehended by Captain Smoker.
