Summary
As the head of the Furude family and the keeper of the Saiguden, he was the father of Rika Furude. Although he loved his daughter deeply, he was strict, once punishing Rika with a spanking after mistakenly believing she had damaged a statue of Oyashiro-sama, even though Satoko was actually responsible. During the dam war, he maintained a neutral stance and refused to align with either faction, a decision that drew animosity from some villagers. While Shion viewed his neutrality as a sign of maturity, Mion believed his refusal to support the protesters only exacerbated unrest in Hinamizawa and hindered village unity. When Takano sought to use Rika as a test subject for Hinamizawa syndrome research, noting that the condition is passed down through females like Mrs. Furude, Mr. Furude and his wife refused to allow their daughter to be exploited. In response, Takano had the Yamainu drug Mr. Furude, fabricating the appearance of death from an unknown disease to eliminate his opposition.
