Summary
Jinta serves as the protagonist of the series. In his youth, he was a vibrant boy and the leader of his friend group, the Super Peace Busters. The trajectory of his life changed drastically when he responded to Naruko’s question about having feelings for Menma with, "Why would I be in love with such an ugly—?" intending to apologize the following day, only for her to die in a drowning accident that very night. Consumed by guilt, Jinta fell into a prolonged period of depression. He became socially withdrawn, eventually retreating completely from society as a hikikomori. He now resides with his father and, despite being enrolled at the same high school as Naruko, he has ceased attending classes.
