Jinenji

Summary

Jinenji is a half-human, half-horse demon residing in a hut with his human mother. They cultivate a field of medicinal plants inherited from his demon father, some of which possess potent antidotal properties. He makes his first appearance in episode 31 of the anime, when Kirara is poisoned by Naraku's shoki, prompting Kagome and InuYasha to seek a cure in the village. Initially, Jinenji appears as a gentle giant who is fearful of humans due to their hostility; the villagers falsely blame him for deaths solely because of his demon heritage. Although his arms bear scars from these attacks, Kagome is not frightened by his appearance and assists him in harvesting herbs. InuYasha, empathizing with Jinenji due to his own childhood abuse, urges him to be more aggressive toward the villagers, especially after Jinenji rescues them from a demon. Ultimately, Jinenji chooses kindness, treating the injured men, which inspires the villagers to rebuild their hut and herb field after burning them in guilt. Jinenji transforms into a fully human once a month, but unlike InuYasha, this occurs during the day. He hides under a blanket in his hut during this time, likely allowing only his mother to see his form, which appears larger than average. During one such transformation, Rin visits his home seeking a cure for Jaken, who was poisoned by the Saimyōshō while protecting her. Physically, Jinenji possesses immense muscle mass and strength. His known demon ability allows him to amplify his power, causing his body to glow with blue energy. He demonstrated this by decapitating a large demon through a chokehold and then destroying the head with a single, explosive punch. In the final episode of InuYasha: The Final Act, Jinenji is last seen helping Kagome gather plants for potions.
