Summary
Souri is a high-ranking spy and ninja whose obsession with art drives him into the realm of political intrigue. His primary motivation is to acquire European artworks, which are considered contraband during the era in which the story is set. He is a childhood friend of the Asano clan and the father of a daughter named Tatsu. The swordsman Rin approaches Souri, hoping to recruit him as an ally against Ittō-ryū. Although Souri initially refuses to assist, he eventually provides Rin with thirty ryō. Later, he aids the wounded Manji and reveals the identity of the mastermind behind the Mugai-ryū. Souri also hires Magatsu to look after his daughter while he is away painting, leading to the revelation that he may have deeper feelings for Magatsu. This nuance is noted by Manji following his conversation with Magatsu in volume 12, Autumn Frost. Souri makes his first appearance in Genius part 1.
