Bat

Summary

Bat starts the series as a fifteen-year-old orphan and nomadic thief. He initially lived in a village managed by Toyo but departed when provisions dwindled, sacrificing his own rations to ensure the younger children survived. During his travels, he was captured and held at Lin's village, where he first encountered Kenshiro. Fascinated by Kenshiro's power, Bat attached himself to the warrior, largely to secure a steady source of food, though he was effectively forced into the role. While he initially appears to be a selfish burden, his earlier self-sacrifice reveals a fundamentally noble character. Although he is often cowardly, careless, and prone to jumping to incorrect conclusions, these traits hide a kind heart, and he is generally eager to assist when possible. Bat possesses notable mechanical skills, particularly in repairing vehicles, and is capable of driving, as demonstrated by his use of a dune buggy during the manga's early arcs. He regards Kenshiro as an older brother figure, and Kenshiro eventually reciprocates this affection, viewing Bat as a younger sibling.
