Summary
Arikoto Madenokoji, a distinguished aristocrat and senior monk hailing from Kyoto, was summoned to Edo Castle alongside his fellow friars, Gyokuei and Myokei, to formally announce his recent ascension to the position of Abbot before the Shogun. His striking handsomeness and refined elegance immediately captivated the court, drawing the specific interest of Lady Kasuga, the senior chamberlain of the inner quarters. Although she initially extended warm hospitality, her true intentions were far more sinister, as she orchestrated a scheme to detain Arikoto and force him into servitude within the secluded inner chambers. As a result, he was stripped of his religious title, his promotion, and his personal freedom, and was compelled to renounce his priestly vows to serve as part of the Shogun’s harem.
