Summary
Haji, who appears to be 22 despite being 142 years old, played a pivotal role in Saya’s awakening. His right arm is wrapped in bandages that conceal Chiropteran traits he cannot revert, a condition likely stemming from the trauma of Saya slicing off his hand during a Vietnam incident. Their relationship began when Haji was 12 and Saya was 43, though she has not aged since 1863. Brought to Joel’s mansion by Joel himself to serve as Saya’s companion and potential mate for breeding specimens, Haji lived with her for many years. The dynamic shifted dramatically when he fell from a cliff while picking a flower for Joel’s birthday. Misinterpreting his bleeding as a need for sustenance, Saya fed him her own blood, unwittingly transforming him into her Chevalier. Since that event, Haji’s sole desire has been to protect Saya and fulfill her wishes. It is also noted that, unlike Saya, Haji does not require eating, sleeping, or long periods of hibernation.
