Summary
Coco is the central protagonist of Witch Hat Atelier. She is a young female witch apprentice with blondish-green hair and gold eyes, residing at Qifrey's Atelier after leaving her former home in Coco's Village. Previously an apprentice tailor and a member of the Outsiders, she now affiliates with the Pointed Cap Witches. Her unique specialty involves drawing straight lines. Coco’s journey began in a small village where she lived with her mother, a fabric seller. She developed a deep love for magic during her childhood, sparked by a glowing cobblestone path at a festival created by the witch Olruggio. This fascination led her to purchase a magic frimoire and pen from a mysterious masked witch. Her life changed when she accidentally used forbidden magic, turning her mother to stone. Seeking a way to reverse this, she aims to find a specific book in the Tower of Tomes. Her path crossed with Qifrey when he visited her mother’s shop. Impressed by her natural talent for cutting cloth, which he viewed as a form of magic, he offered to repair a broken winged chariot using magic, allowing Coco to witness his abilities. That night, Coco attempted to draw magic using a book and wand she had acquired. Qifrey intervened just as the drawing triggered an explosive light, saving her but inadvertently triggering the forbidden spell that petrified her mother. Although Qifrey initially planned to erase her memories for breaking the law, he decided to take her on as an apprentice. He recognized her as a potential key to uncovering the Brimmed Caps, a group of witches practicing forbidden magic. Personality-wise, Coco is bright, cheerful, and optimistic. Raised outside the witch community, she retains a childlike enthusiasm and observes even common spells with wide-eyed wonder. While her approach to magic is often simplistic and practical, focusing on basic shapes, she excels at brainstorming creative concepts that benefit her fellow apprentices.
