Summary
Tomoko has served as Nanako’s best friend and primary source of support since their childhood. Nanako’s admission into the Sorority initially strains their relationship and erodes the trust Tomoko places in her friend. However, contrary to the manga’s narrative, the anime depicts this rift, which was triggered by lies told by Mariko, as being successfully resolved. Consequently, Tomoko remains steadfastly by Nanako’s side, continuing to encourage and assist her during times of despair or hardship. Over time, Tomoko also befriends Mariko, defending her to others on multiple occasions. Her presence in the anime provides a sense of normalcy, helping viewers maintain a connection to real life. While the other girls at Seiran base their existence on the Sorority’s activities, treating them as a matter of life and death, Tomoko’s simplicity offers a refreshing contrast that allows the audience to breathe in relief.
