Summary
Springfield Nagi is a legendary wizard and the father of Negi. His reputation as the master of a thousand spells is complicated by the fact that he admits to being a dropout who knows only a handful of incantations, often relying on pocket notes to cast others. This title originated from a dream experienced by Evangeline, whose personal animosity toward him casts doubt on its accuracy, yet Asuna’s detailed flashback dream confirms Nagi himself referenced this status. Rumors also circulated that he established probationary contracts with a thousand girls, likely fabricated by Albert Chamomile to motivate Negi and secure brokerage fees from the Ermine Society. However, the existence of Nagi’s Probationary Contract with Albireo Imma, numbered 1001, lends credence to these claims. Possessing immense magical and physical prowess, Nagi fights as a magic swordsman, seamlessly blending rapid spellcasting with hand-to-hand combat without needing Ministra Magi for assistance. Contrary to popular belief, Nagi never graduated from wizard school, having dropped out at age ten. That same year, he won the final Legendary Mahora Martial Arts Tournament. Five years later, at fifteen, he participated in a magic war that concluded shortly after. Following the conflict, his heroic actions earned him the title of Thousand Master. He vanished in 1993, the year Negi was born, leading most to assume he had died; Alberio’s pre-birth recording even featured Nagi predicting his own death. Yet, he survived until four years later, appearing briefly to save Negi from demons attacking their village. He left only his staff before departing, suggesting he remained in peril. Flashbacks depict him as playful and cunning, traits mirrored in the illusionary version created by Alberio, which displayed a distinct ego. Since the pactio between Nagi and Alberio remains active, many speculate that the Thousand Master is still alive.
