Bason

Summary

Bason is the spirit of an ancient Chinese wujiang who serves Ren with absolute loyalty and unwavering obedience. In the English manga adaptation, he addresses Ren as "Master Ren," whereas in the Japanese version, he uses the term "Bocchama," meaning "Young Master." Over time, he evolved into a cherished companion for his young master. Details regarding his birth date and blood type remain unknown. Bason has pledged his service to the Tao family across multiple generations, promising to aid Ren by any means necessary. He wields a kwan dao, a polearm resembling a halberd but featuring one curved edge and one straight edge aligned with the handle. In his past life as a warrior, he rode a horse named Hei-Tao; the spirit of this steed can merge with Ren’s horse, Bái-Feng, to execute the Perfect Re-enactment of the Vorpal Dance. Bason enhances Ren’s combat capabilities by infusing tremendous strength and speed into the kwan dao, even enlarging its size, and utilizes physical attacks like the Golden Punch. In his Giant Spirit Form, he manifests as a colossal robot capable of firing fireballs. Initially, Bason appears as cold and cruel as Ren, but interactions with You Asakura cause both him and his master to soften, developing a more pleasant demeanor. He possesses an overwhelming sense of duty, breaking down in tears when Ren is imprisoned by his father. Although he and Amidamaru start as hostile and competitive rivals, they eventually forge a friendly relationship.
