Kami

Summary

In Japanese culture, he is addressed with the respectful title Kami-sama, which translates to "God." Kami originated as the benevolent counterpart to the Namekian who would become the God of Earth, while his malevolent counterpart transformed into Piccolo Daimao. During the anime adaptation, he secured his position by competing against Garlic, defeating him in the process. Three centuries later, Garlic’s son, Garlic Jr., harbored a lasting resentment and launched two separate attempts to seize the title, only to be defeated each time. For many years, Kami remained in seclusion, vigilantly protecting the planet. When the offspring of his dark half, Piccolo, began to threaten the world, Kami descended to Earth in disguise. He entered the Tenka-ichi Budōkai by inhabiting a human body and reached the semifinals, where he confronted Piccolo. Attempting to imprison his enemy using the Mafūba, Kami found the technique reversed, resulting in his own capture within the bottle. Piccolo kept the bottle on his person before losing his match against Son Goku. Later, during the Artificial Human Saga, Kami consented to merge with Piccolo to create a being powerful enough to counter the artificial threats.
