Fukuda, Kicchou

Summary

Fukuda stands as the second ace of Ryonan High, possessing offensive power that rivals the elite players in Kanagawa prefecture. He is frequently depicted executing alley oops with Sendoh acting as the passer, though his defensive capabilities are notably weak and easily exploited. A special rivalry with Hanamichi begins early on, when a depressed Hanamichi encounters Fukuda practicing near a court; Fukuda had previously expressed a desire to play against Hanamichi, but Sendoh had refused. Their actual meeting occurs during the final match of the Interhigh Tournament, where Fukuda dominates Sakuragi in the first half, declaring "I won, Sakuragi" and igniting Hanamichi’s competitive spirit. Refusing to accept defeat, Hanamichi intensifies his marking of Fukuda during the second half. Coach Moichi Taoka identified potential in both Fukuda and Sendoh upon their recruitment, but frequently criticized the green and thick-skinned Fukuda while praising Sendoh. Contrary to his tough exterior, Fukuda proved to be quite sensitive. During an exhibition match, he released his pent-up aggression toward Taoka, resulting in a suspension from all games until the Interhigh Tournament. Consequently, he misses the practice match against Shohoku and does not appear until Ryonan faces Kainan. Having endured such rudeness, Fukuda deeply values respect and praise, even bursting into tears when the crowd cheers him on during the game against Kainan.
