Rin is an orphaned girl who found Sesshomaru in the woods while he was recovering from a battle with InuYasha. Traumatized by witnessing her family’s murder by bandits, she had become mute and survived through the questionable charity of a small village, largely looking out for herself. Despite Sesshomaru’s dismissive attitude, she persisted in bringing him food and water. She showed unusual joy when he casually asked about the injuries inflicted on her by villagers, a reaction that confused him. When Sesshomaru prepared to depart, the scent of her blood led him to find she had been killed by wolves. Driven by curiosity regarding his sword’s powers and a sense of pity, he used Tenseiga to resurrect her. Rin now adheres to him with intense loyalty, much to Jaken’s annoyance, and has regained her speech. Sesshomaru intervenes to protect her when she faces danger. The name Rin translates to "cold."
