Ophis
Summary
Identified as the strongest existence by Ddraig, Ophis is a Dragon born from nothingness who first appeared in Volume 6. She rarely displays emotion, driven primarily by a desire to defeat Great Red and return to the Dimensional Gap to find silence. Issei characterizes her as an honest, pure, and naive Dragon, while Azazel notes that her interactions with humanity have altered her, though the specifics remain undefined. Born long ago within the Dimensional Gap, Ophis originally lived there until she left, only to find Great Red had taken up residence upon her attempted return. Prior to assuming her current form, she disguised herself as an elderly man. Before the series began, she rose to become the leader of the Khaos Brigade. Her name was first mentioned in Volume 4, where Ddraig referred to her as the strongest existence, and she made her official appearance in Volume 6 in the Underworld to observe Great Red before retreating. Ophis possesses the ability to manifest her powers as snakes that consume targets to drastically increase their power. She can also create snakes that unlock a Sacred Gear’s full potential, potentially accelerating the achievement of Balance Breaker, though this process risks destroying the Gear and killing the host. Ddraig claims her true abilities surpass the combined strength of the two Heavenly Dragons; she considers herself weak even when her power is twice that of the Heavenly Dragons. As a true shapeshifter, she can alter her size, age, physical attributes, and gender. She can bless individuals to grant them advantages without negatively affecting Devils. For instance, her blessing increased Asia’s compatibility with Dragons and improved Irina’s luck. In the Volume 13 Extra Life, Ophis is shown playing with Rassei, with whom she has formed a close bond, even declaring her intention to train the young Dragon.
