Summary
Hody Jones is a great white shark fishman who serves as the captain of the New Fishman Pirates and is a former soldier in the Neptune Army. He is a devoted follower of Arlong, strictly adhering to the pirate’s ideology. Jones possesses a racist, hypocritical, prideful, brutal, and vicious personality. Like many of his kin, he harbors a deep hatred for humans, fueled by the belief that they abandoned Fisher Tiger to die, despite the fact that Tiger actually refused human blood due to previous betrayals. He acts on this animosity by attacking any humans within his reach. Sharing Arlong’s view that fishmen are the supreme race, Jones displays his arrogance by attacking Gyro’s crew while his hands are cuffed, demonstrating that they could easily defeat them even while handicapped. He then deliberately releases the injured but alive crew members, instructing them to spread the word of the New Fishman Pirates. Although both he and Arlong look down on humans, Jones’s treatment of them is significantly more brutal. He views human captives as expendable pawns rather than sources of tribute money. While Arlong primarily killed humans to make examples of those who failed to pay and generally left compliant humans alone, Jones incorporates humans into plans that almost guarantee their deaths. He threatens to kill them outright if they refuse, offering them virtually no chance of survival.
