Summary
Sailor Lethe and Sailor Mnemosyne are twin sisters who make their sole appearance in Act 48 of the manga, hailing from the planets Lethe and Mnemosyne respectively. Their home worlds were small, impoverished, and plagued by violence and chaos until Galaxia arrived, bringing death and ruin. In the face of this devastation, the sisters felt compelled to follow Galaxia, hoping to eventually find peace. Sailor Mnemosyne is named after the Titaness of memory and mother of the muses, as well as an underworld river associated with remembrance and omniscience. Sailor Lethe introduces herself as the ferryman of the desert river. She captures Eternal Sailor Moon at the bottom of the River of Oblivion, killing Luna, Artemis, and Diana, before attacking Sailor Moon directly. Sailor Mnemosyne intervenes, stating that Sailor Moon has suffered enough. Lethe argues that Sailor Moon’s Sailor Crystal, the Ginzuishou, is the root cause of all the wars they have witnessed, claiming that its destruction would bring peace. In response, Sailor Moon offers her own life to end the violence. Moved by this self-sacrifice, the sisters realize that the conflict will persist regardless of whether Sailor Moon dies. As they prepare to release the Senshi, Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi appear, dismissing Lethe and Mnemosyne as useless fools. The two new warriors then take the twins' Sailor Crystals, resulting in their deaths.
