Summary
Roba, known in the English anime as Espa Roba, is a seventeen-year-old male duelist with blood type A who claims to possess ESP. Standing at 172 cm and weighing 48 kg, he entered Battle City to uphold his reputation and protect his younger brothers. In reality, he is a fraud who uses his siblings to spy on and relay the cards in his opponent's hand, allowing him to seemingly predict strategies before they are executed. He first appears defeating Rex Raptor and acquiring Serpent Night Dragon. Rex warns Joey Wheeler that Roba’s psychic abilities allow him to read hands, but the self-confident Joey accepts the duel. Although Roba initially gains an advantage, Joey deduces the scheme and uses Skull Dice and Graceful Dice to confuse the watchers. Mokuba Kaiba discovers that Roba’s brothers are spying from a high-rise building but allows the duel to continue after the brothers explain that the psychic persona was a defense mechanism against abuse. Roba summons Jinzo to cripple Joey’s strategy, but Joey plays Roulette Beetle, forcing Jinzo to attack Esper’s Reflect Bounder, which reflects the damage back to destroy both monsters. Defeated, Roba forfeits Jinzo to Joey and declares he will stand up for his brothers without cheating. He later makes a cameo in the Japanese epilogue dueling Mako Tsunami. In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, he is listed among the players defeated by Mukuro Enjo.
