Summary
Vergo is a Marine Vice Admiral and the head of G-5, serving as a subordinate to Donquixote Doflamingo. He first appeared on Punk Hazard, where his duplicitous nature and shifting allegiances positioned him as the secondary antagonist of the arc. During an encounter with Trafalgar Law, Vergo demonstrated his shrewdness by mistrusting Caesar Clown, a concern that led him to station Monet on the island to monitor the scientist’s activities. He often adopts a condescending demeanor, mocking Law’s status by feigning respect for the Shichibukai while secretly viewing himself as superior. Vergo quickly reasserted this power dynamic by beating Law unconscious and demanded that the doctor address him as Vergo-san to emphasize the gap between them. His favorite food is hamburgers, and he is depicted as a messy eater, initially appearing with a burger stuck to his cheek. In public, Vergo presents himself as an amiable figure, a stark contrast to the other G-5 Marines. This facade allowed him to deceive both the citizens and the Marine organization; he successfully convinced the parents of missing children on Punk Hazard that the kids had died in an accident, though some parents still hold out hope. His ability to manipulate everyone around him highlights his cunning. However, despite his apparent intelligence, Vergo occasionally exhibits moments of air-headedness. For instance, he once claimed to Caesar Clown that he was enjoying coffee and cookies, only to be reminded shortly after that no cookies had ever been present.
