Summary
As the matriarch of the spider clan, Jorougumo commands respect from her kin and possesses a malevolent aura potent enough to poison even a pure spirit. Her mastery over spiritual barriers is such that it prevents Tengu from entering her domain. She is responsible for kidnapping the Zashiki Warashi and gouging out Watanuki’s eye. Driven by a disdain for those who fail to appreciate their blessings and refuse to sacrifice themselves, she exacts a painful lesson from Watanuki before releasing him. Her moral alignment remains ambiguous, leaving observers unsure whether she acts as a force of good or evil.
