Summary
Rika is a young girl residing in Shell Town who attempts to show gratitude to the imprisoned Zoro by offering him onigiri. Zoro declines her gift and tells her to leave. Helmeppo intervenes, snatching the food away and harshly warning Rika that giving it to Zoro would make her an accomplice to a criminal. He then spits out the onigiri, complaining that they contain sugar rather than salt. Helmeppo orders the Marine behind him to throw Rika out, and while he reluctantly complies, Luffy catches her to prevent any harm. Zoro had originally been imprisoned by the Marines for defending Rika from an attack by Helmeppo’s pet wolf. Viewing this intervention as a personal offense, Helmeppo sentenced Zoro to thirty days in confinement, a term Zoro accepted to avoid further trouble. Later, Rika befriends Helmeppo and Koby during their time in Shell Town and is saddened when they depart with Vice-Admiral Garp. She also appears in filler episodes and TV Special 4, where she is friends with Ninjin, Piman, and Tamanegi. Her only known relative is her mother, Ririka, who works as a bartender. In the Funimation dub, she is voiced by Kate Oxley, while Emi Uwagawa provides her Japanese voice. Lisa Ortiz voices her in the 4Kids dub. Rika first appears in Chapter 3 and Episode 2.
