Ashitaka is a prince of the Emishi tribe who becomes cursed during a battle with a demonic boar. Believing his only chance for a cure lies in returning to the forested homeland of the boar-god to uncover the source of its rage, he departs from his people forever. During his journey, he witnesses a conflict between the forest gods and humans in an iron-mining town. Determined to heal the anger consuming him, Ashitaka pledges to facilitate a compromise between the warring factions. He comes to believe that the solution rests with a mysterious human girl who resides among the gods.
