Summary
Ayumi is first encountered by the Oni-Baku on Yoron Shima in volume 1, where she appears alongside Mariko. While Eikichi views the meeting as an opportunity to pursue a romantic conquest, Ryuji finds himself genuinely captivated by Ayumi. Although it is revealed that the two women are not students but rather teachers at their new school, the romance persists for a period despite interference from Fumiya Shindouji, who attempts to separate them due to a past engagement Ayumi had with his deceased brother. The relationship reaches a turning point when Ayumi and Ryuji plan to marry; however, Ayumi concludes that denying Ryuji the experiences of youth would be detrimental to his life, prompting her to depart by train. This separation leaves Ryuji deeply heartbroken, a state that is only temporarily alleviated when he meets Nagisa. Nevertheless, Ayumi’s occasional reappearance continues to distract Ryuji, causing significant frustration for Nagisa.
