Summary
Kit Church is the second son of Duke Henry Church and his deceased wife, Charlotte. Despite his aristocratic lineage, he rejects the life of a nobleman and chooses to enroll at Saint Thomas instead. There, he befriends Peter, who becomes his first school companion. Although Kit is recognized as a genius and consistently ranks as the top student, he secretly harbors deep dissatisfaction with his own artwork. This inner turmoil drives him to draw desperately in an attempt to find fulfillment. He eventually falls in love with Lili, though it is only through Catherine's observation that he comes to understand the true nature of his feelings.
