Unabara, Mitsuki
Summary
Mitsuki Unabara is the grandson of the principal at Mikoto’s school and a classmate of Misaka. He harbors romantic feelings for her, though she is uninterested. To deter his advances, Misaka and Kamijou Touma feign a relationship. Unabara possesses Level 4 Telekinesis, allowing him to manipulate objects remotely. He can also apply this power to his own body, a skill he used to petrify every cell and enter a cryogenic-like stasis state after magician Etzali severely injured him by peeling off his skin. This defense prevented further damage while he remained immobile. Prior to the start of the story, Etzali imprisoned Unabara and assumed his identity. Etzali’s disguise as Unabara involved feigning harassment toward Misaka, which exposed contradictions in his alibies when compared to his behavior with Touma. Investigations by Shirai Kuroko revealed that the real Unabara had cheated to achieve top grades. He used his telekinesis to detect minute heat and radiation on computer screens during exams to reverse-engineer answers. Touma deduced the impersonation because Etzali helped him with summer homework, revealing that the real Unabara lacked the academic brilliance Etzali portrayed. Etzali’s version of Unabara appeared modest, kind, and considerate. After Volume 5, Etzali continued using Unabara’s identity while the real Unabara’s whereabouts remained unknown, though he survived his ordeal without life-threatening injuries.
